Hey guys I am new to this forum as i just recently bought a project bike. It is a 1982 KZ1000 with approx.33000 on it. The guy I bought it from had not owned it long and never had it running but the previous owner had put some serious time into the bike. All he had told me is that when he was driving down the highway a puff of black smoke came out and bike came to a stop and it has been parked in his garage since. I had pulled the tank and pet-cock off because no fuel was coming out. I am picking up a new one tomorrow but would like a few hints as to where I should begin to get the bike started or what is wrong. I will try to up-load some pics in the next day or so. I realize without the bike running makes problem solving hard but any help would be appreciated.

Take the valve cover off and check the clearances.

Ok I am fairly new at all this but pumped to dive into it. If the clearances are off and they need to adjusted is there a video or well described process as how to make the adjustments? Thanks again

a compression test should be in order as well.

Here are a few pictures of the bike. I paid $550 and thought it was worth it. Looks like the previous guy put some thought and time into it. But....it doesn't run. Ill check the compression later on just need to find the time. Figured I would put some pics up.

Hey guys so I was able to get the battery charged and keep the charger on while turning it over. I can see a air bubble int he fuel line but everytime I turn it over the bubble doesnt move. I have replaced the pet cock and know that the fuel runs through gravity freely from the tank. Am I missing something in order to get this bike turned over and started to see what kind of top end work needs to be done. thanks again for the help.
