It looks like Brads drag bike might have been in the Katrina flood?

I ground down where the old passenger peg mounts were welded to the frame and removed the center stand mount as well. Went and talked to the powder coater this morning. Still not sure what I'm going to do. Leaning towards black everything. I'm going to try to do a mock up in Photoshop or something.

I've been out of town for the past month. Just got back to New Orleans 2 weeks ago. Drove my new (to me) Toyota camry 4100 miles and hit 11 National Parks between California and Louisiana. But I'm back and got everything back from powder coating. They did a pretty lazy job so I've been sanding PC out of bearing races. Reassembly is starting this Wed. I scored a new tank from a member on here that is as close to pristine as a 35 year old tank can be! Pretty stoked on that. Seat is done being reupholstered. Hoping to have some pics of it more or less together later this week. If the weather behaves I'd like to at least have everything primed by weeks end. It's getting close and I am excited!

I do alot of powder coating myself, mostly just for my own projects and pieces from local guys that heard about me from word of mouth. That looks like they skimped on 5 minutes worth of taping work to create 5 hours worth of stripping work for you! If you plan on doing a lot of powder coating on future projects I definitely recommend doing it yourself. I started out using an eastwood gun and a household oven but that limits the size of what you can do greatly. I now use a spectracoat gun which ran about $1000 and built an oven myself that will fit a motorcycle frame, cost about $700 in materials. I sure like my new gun but I had excellent results just using my $100 eastwood gun.

Very nice project. Where did you order your offset sprocket. I need it for my project. I intend to have 17/40 gearing on mine. Chain is 525.

I've got 10-12 hours in filing, scraping and sanding that shit off. Same place did a buddy's wheel and it came back perfect. It's a piss off but it is what it is. Unfortunately there seems to be zero reliable shops of any kind in my area. I don't do enough to justify even a small home set up and have neither the space or the funds. I do have a compressor and a spray gun set up, so next time I may just end up painting everything. There is a shop near me that does nickel and copper plating so I have been thinking about going that route next time. A copper plated frame and bury it in clear coat? Could be cool, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

The more i get into restoring bikes/cars the more I do everything myself because i don't trust people to do things right anymore. I generally avoid powdercoat these days for the same reason you are filling your wheel, The last set of stuff i sent out to PC the guys compressor broke so he didn't sandblast anything. The shops that do it right want way too much for my budget and the shops that have reasonable prices are doing lazy work.

One thing you can do to ensure good masking is get some of the high temp heat tape and mask everything yourself.

Well I wouldn't say the price was reasonable for the quality of work received, but oh well. I got the wheels finished tonight. Should have a rolling chassis again by tomorrow night. Nothing picture worthy. Just some pretty new black wheels with new rubber. Weather has been garbage. 45 degrees and raining so no progress on paint either. Keep you posted when I start making big moves.
