I believe 16" alloy rear wheels came standard on LTD's, (my 77 KZ 1000 LTD has one) It was a way to get a slightly bigger tire on the back wheel.

What it also did was to make pumping up the rear tyre a bit of a pain due to less room around the sprocket and rear disc.

Off to the sandblasters last week. We have had lots of rain the past week and it's holding up the blasting. Hopefully get it back today. Someone mentioned checking the frame, to make sure it's straight. I could not find any measurements to check squarness. Anybody on that ?
I have been looking for a GS1100 swing arm with no luck. Are there any other kinda bolt on swingarms ( other than $600 aftermarket pieces) that use the double shock set up ? I see a lot of frame bracing going on, I assume this is for strength when adding horse power or is it a handling fix ? Has anybody used clip-ons for a handlebar set up ?

bracing is used to help tame these old beast when used in anger.

add some hp and it is def.a good idea to brace it up.

they are built from seemed plumbers pipe.

most of the swingarms(gsxr,busa,zx636,fz1) are going to take some modding and a couple shock brackets to go aluminum swing and dual shocks.

look through the gallery several people have used clip ons.

There is plenty of knowledgeable people on here that could make you a custom swingarm. The quality of work is great. I love my swingarm i got. I got my streched 4 to 6 over with dual shock and disk brake. Keep up the good work with the bike. If you are gonna be adding more power or plan to beat on it hard i would consider a frame barce kit for sure.

Here is a pic of the Yosh frame bracing.
Race tech internals on a KZ1000P triple tree and forks allows a 120 front tire, and that GS swinger allows a 160mm rear tire. I built my own swinger from chrome moly for the stocker look and wheel base, for handling. Still, the GS swinger only adds 2" to wheel base. I used the GS swinger to make the jig for the chrome moly swinger. If you use spoked wheels, you can get 17" rims through Buchanon spokes and run modern sportbike rubber as well. When you do that, you have a very good "standar" riding machine that handles pretty well. What you do with the motor- well, they are pretty strong from the factory, and the sky is the limit IMHO- just need $ like any other project LOL. But even in stock trim, I leaned mine over far enough to scrape the cases. Just depends on how good a rider you are I suppose. In stock trim I dusted a guy riding a 01 1k FZR. I should have not been able to keep up with him, but he had no idea how to lean LOL

Well, got it back from the sandblaster, got it in primer and did a test fit of parts to throw in a 9 inch extended swing arm. Things have come to a screeching halt do to a move to bigger shop. It doesn't look like I'll be riding the 4th of July. As soon as the move is done, it's back to the KZ. Thanks for watching guys....
