This is kinda crazy. I'm having valve/piston clearance problems on a KZ1000. The serial numbers on the block were ground off when I bought the bike, but the cylinder has 1.015L embossed on it. The camshafts appear to be aftermarket. The left end of the shafts have CM and Z2 stamped on them. The shafts have CWC and EP14 forged on them between the speedo gear and the chain drive bosses. The base line circle of the camshaft lobe is 1.1 inch and the intake lobe is very close to 1.5 inch. The service manual states the intake camshaft height is 1.429 inch. Does anyone have any idea what brand these cams are? Could they be stock and the oversize valves are hitting the Wiseco 1075

answer

They sound like a pair of old Cam Motion Z2 cams. A bolt-in .385" lift on a 1.110" base circle. I would suspect your cam timing first.

I found one similar to that one, but I used Google instead of goggle...  :

floridamba "I have a pair of Megacycle Cams which (I was told) are for a J-model KZ1000. Can someone help me identify which cams these are?

Intake Cam:
Markings include K-22, CWC, EP14 and I-5

Exhaust Cam:
Markings include K-24, CWC, EP14 and I-5. Cam has gear drive for tachometer.

Both are in very good shape, no wear or dings.

thanks in advance

FMBA"

APE Jay "The CWC is the foundry, EP14 is the billet part number. They will not tell you who finished ground the cam.

Does it say Mega cycle on them anywhere? The grind number should be stamped on the end."

floridamba "I called Megacycle and they told me that the sprockets are theirs, but the cams are not. The sprockets are for the hy-vo chain used in the kz1000 J models and GPZ models. The cams are for an older KZ1000 or even maybe a 900, not sure on that. Megacycle had the sprockets made to allow older cams to be used in newer engines wit the hy-vo.

They referred me to another cam manuafcturer in Louisiana (don't have my notes with me now) who referred me to Star Racing (www.starracing.com) who makes most of the aftermarket cams. Their expert told me that the cams are a Z-2 and Z-4 model and were probably set up as an intake/exhaust pair, with the cam with the tach drive obviously being the exhaust.

He gave me the lift and recommended timing for each cam and said they are still being made today. He explained that now they mainly make exhaust cams only because that's where the horsepower is versus the intake."

The cam ends have CM 2 stamped into them. The lift is 0.377 or 9.57 mm

Any one have any clues on the stock valve size?

how did u arive at this # ?
did u subtract the width from the hight?
if so then these r similar to a stock lift.

a gpz would be around .385" i think. a high lift street cam would be .410" to .430", a relay large drag race only, type of lift would be .500"

Mark,I measured the lobe at the longest point and subtracted the base circle . Maybe I screwed up! I did it in a rush at 6.30 am before I left for work .!

If they both have the same markings, they're just what Tri posted they were. Cam Motion Z2 cams with .385 lift. Way to go Tri ;)

so then, u have .385 lift. that and the 10.25:1 1075cc pistons should give u a nice motor with low end torque. B)
the valves sizes r stock (35, 30). now look into the intakes and xht ports to see if it looks ported. post a pic if u cant tell, maybe we can tell .
