My end cpas failed as well dumping hot oil all down my leg, not fun. If you do them again use some copper rtv silicone, let it sit for a while then mount the valve cover and gasket. You're right about the floor boards, very comfortable, even more so with the police seat and seat springs. ;-)

Looking good though sir, nice paint. What are your plans for the rear section?

Ha, yea, that big seat was just too much for me.

I used red (its the high temp) RTV on the bottom of the end plugs only. I was sparse with it. I might take it apart. It only has 100miles on it, so the gasket should be ok, who knows.

I am gonna do a banana seat on it. Gotta make a seat pan and then get it upholstered.

Your gasket should be fine. Just go slow and use the silicone all the way around the end cap. It helps with holding it in place as well. Your seat idea sounds good as well. lol on the big seat, I need it at 6'-3" and 240lbs.

Ha, I think I am lucky. I was sitting at a stop light just now and looked down, there was a tiny little bubble coming from the bold head. The oil is coming out there and running down. So I am going to let it cool off and then silicone the bolt.

I am tall myself, 6'4" 220. The banana seat should come out sweet. Thinking of going with a light brown leather. Should look pretty sweet with that silver tank. Gonna make a tiny back fender, then paint the fender and the headlight bucket in the silver as well.

Hahahaha, did you really just use bar tape? I was trying to think how I could get brown leather grips. That would look perfect!

Nice! That looks real good. So its funny, since I said that one bolt was leaking, I removed it and put RTV on it, and now it is still leaking along with 2 others. So yea, its coming back apart.

Does anyone know what kind of bulbs these Bates headlights use? Headlight

I think I might put one on, but I want it to be a good bulb, like H4 or something.

From the price and the looks of the light I'd have to go with an H1.

Ha, well, I found another. Even cheaper, which is fine with me, as I am mostly considered with seeing if I like how the light looks on the bike. If it is good looking, but the quality is bad, I can always buy the nice one, but if it is ugly, I can discard it without feeling bad.

The RFY shocks how long did you get and are they any good? I've looked at those before and have been a little leary of them. My stepson is building a 79 650 into a cafe/fighter and I thought they might work well.

K, got the headlight in 1 day from ebay! Awesome! It looks great!

It mounts from the bottom, so I no longer have the chrome mounts on the side. It looks so much better. I have to remount my turn signals, but that is not hard.

As for the shocks, I used the 340mm ones. The stock shocks were 350 I think. So they are a tiny shorter. I am actually building a 79 KZ650 as well! I will prob use these same shocks. Like I said before, these are not Ohlins, but SO much better than stock.

So I went to see a buddy of mine today. He is a fabricator and has a super awesome cnc plasma table. Well, with about 15 minutes of measuring and 20 more moinutes of ideas and 5 minutes on the table, I had this dope seat pan. It is currently zip tied to the bike, but I just need to put some tabs on the frame to hold it and will be all good. Then I am gonna get it covered and it will be done. Super stoked. The windows on the side will have mess in them.

My measuring was a little off for the tank bolt hole, but the seat pad will cover that.

Ha, I really dont know about water jet, but those plasma tables get pricy. As for the seat, I wont have it covered for a few weeks. I will be posting pics of the under mounting soon tho. it will be pretty trick and clean.

So I did some work on the seat pan. I welded supports to the frame below where the gastank mounts. I welded to the square tube I put in there to reenforce the gastank support. (and yes, the right side is off a little, thats why I had to cut the front, ha, looks bad, but works fine)

I also but a support further back.

I then drilled holes that centered the pan and welded pins that drop into the supports.

I think I am gonna do this once more on the back crossmember. Then it should be all good. Also, I am going put in a few well nuts to hold it down.

Ok, so I did some good work this weekend. I removed my battery (SOOOO BIG) and replaced it with the old battery from my R1 (plenty of power for a 1000, but MUCH smaller). I also didnt but it back in the stock spot. I went to my buddies shop and he helped me make a battery box and we welded that to the underside of the swingarm. I dont have many pics, I will take more soon. Also, build a plate that mounts where the old battery box mounted and holds the regulator, starter solinoid, fuse box and ignition unit. The wires are a little crazy, but I am gonna trim them down soon.
