That M unit looks like a very cool thing, but I'm not sure I understand the benefit. Can you explain? Great looking build!

Nelson,

As I was gonna wire the entire bike from scratch I thought it fitting to modernize the tech that handles all the electronics of the bike. The key points for me on the M-Unit are..

- Performs all fuse, relay and flasher functions in one small module (Nothing External)
- Very straight forward and less complicated wiring harness.
- Integrated Flasher control. (Auto signal cancel on second command, hazards, etc)
- Integrated (Single Wire) tail light. Will do Flash, Fade, Pulse, etc
- Load Control, Auto powers down lights, etc will starting.
- Fully independent short/overloaded circuit protection
- Integrated Alarm with tilt sensor (just an added bonus)

An most importantly... NO KEY. Really wanted to front of the bike to be clean. And I most admit, there is a bit of a cool factor to it as well.

Fun... come on now, that's still a stretch.. LOL Cut, crimp, and then soldering all the wires still sucks, but at least I can play with it when all done. :)

Thanks guys. She is moving along, although at a snails pace it seems some days. Once I get the entire thing wired up and done, I will do a full feature run down, and post the final wiring diagram for the entire bike.

Leon... Piss off!! LOL Just kidding man, I will be happy to share any info you want. What electronics you talking about? Just M-Unit and charging stuff, or FI stuff as well?

Leon,

Here you go buddy.. Consider it a shopping list. I already had the multi conductor wire that I used to hookup the controls, etc. So I didn't have a cost in that, but it's pretty cheap. If you used all your current components (Starter Relay, R&R, Etc) you could redo the Z1R for $350ish. Maybe cheaper if you catch the M-Unit on sale somewhere. Not to bad for a brand new (modern) wiring setup. IMHO

Moto Madness:
Motogadget M-Unit Digital Control Center $299.99
Motogadget M-Lock Digital Ignition Lock $176.99

Radio Shack:
Molex Connectors: Misc Sizes (Approx) $30.00

Ace Hardware:
Misc Wire & Electrical Connectors: (Approx) $15.00

Ricks Electrics:
10-302 (10-302) OEM Style Kawasaki Rectifier-Regulator $105.00
65-101 (65-101) Starter Solenoid Switch $40.00

thanks. that's super cool. I may get inspired to do this to my bike. I suppose I could buy only the ignition switch and eliminate the key even if I don't do the whole thing. Will the magnet-key-thingamajig work if the battery dies?

Yep, you can do just the M-Lock on any bike. Just tie it to a relay and you are good to go. In fact it comes with one that you can use. (Don't need it if you tie it to the M-Unit). I am going to be removing the key on my Victory and using an M-Lock as well.

The operating range of the M-Lock is 7-18VDC and the power draw on the is only 2mA stand by
100mA in operation. So if the battery still had a little juice you should be able to get it to work. As a backup plan, one I intend to use myself is to just have an inline micro switch to close the contacts if needed.

Sorry Leon, missed this question. Both control cables are 20ga for the inputs.

Spent some time on the bike this weekend, weather was shitty, so couldn't get distracted by riding. My goal was to get the the throttle bodies mounted and wired in as well as get a good bit of the EFI wired up.

This is what I started with so I wasn't expecting much, lol..

Got the TB's mounted. Still waiting on my permanent band clamps.

Made up and wrapped a new injector harness. I will wrap the entire harness like this once its all done "and tested" lol

And done... (90%, still have to wire in the igniters) Im about soldered out!!

Stuck the tank on to check clearances, etc. Will be nice when it can go on and stay on!!
