Well I made some progress on the lil green beast.
For now at least, my gerotor pump project is set aside. I found a smaller gear type pump on ebay that has a decent price tag. The pump is well made and draws just 2 amps.

I have the new pump wired and plumbed in. I have not flow tested it yet though. I mounted it to the frame tube on the lower right side using rubber bushings and the return goes in through the clutch cover. I drilled and tapped the cover for the AN fitting.
Also the fuel system is now 100% plumbed and wired.

I mounted the aluminum Jardine muffler today. I think it fits the bike pretty well.

I installed a KOSO db-02r digital dash and the matching indicator light kit, and also a Innovate "MTX" wideband setup. Both are very nice kits.
Everything is wired in except for the 2 temp senders for the db-02r dash and the o2 sensor for the wideband. I think I'll use 1 temp sender to monitor oil temp and the other for cyl head temp.
So it'll be ready to hit the road pretty soon and begin the tuning. I start a new job this coming Tuesday so it might be a couple of weeks before I can spend much time on it again.

Pipe and dash look awesome! The qualilty of work on this bike amazes me every time I look at it. It's just beautiful!

Low the workshop Steve, what sort of boost are you looking at running?
Do you have any concerns with the fuel getting heated up from the efi pump?
My injected 650 runs a gpz1100 pump and on a long run you can notice an increase in the fuel temp as the tank gets warm but that is at a high pressure. Running carbs you will looking at below 10 psi wont you?

Hey thanks guys!

Dave,

Yeah I have been considering fuel temps from constant circulation. Been there done it..

Fuel PSI with no boost will only be around 3-4 psi at cruise. So that should help.
If I find it is a problem then I'll add a voltage controller to spin the pump slower when not under boost.Since the pump is not really needed at all when not boosting, there may be alternatives such as a pump bypass and kick in the pump once needed. Possibly a small accumulator to cover any pump delay. But I would rather KISS.

This is going to be a long term project. At first mild boost around 10-12psi kicking up output around 100hp or so.. Once I rebuild the motor with better parts I'll start kicking it up a bit.
That's next years project. The budget needs a big break.:ohmy:

There's always somebody faster and more powerful. I would be very happy to eventually see around 125 wheel hp out of this bike but we all know how that goes, it's never enough until you blow it to pieces!:woohoo:

Are you concerned you might grind up that exhaust on anything more than a casual left hander? It looks a tad low for spirited corner carving.

Just discovered this post, what a superb bike. I've always wanted to turbo my Z650 but even though I've been a mechanic for years I don't have all the technical engineering knowledge to do what you've done, great bike, really well done.

Just curious to know if running the turbo with the carbs would be the better rout to take then running tb's ( obviously efi is going to cost big $$)
