Aaaargh.

The engine is a GPZ750 but now an 810cc forged piston build.

The stator is an aftermarket new model and the entire electrical system is new and bespoke - so I just selected a good quality modern Reg/Rec to use.

Should I stick with the 6-cable control wire version - I also have a 5-wire version.

I'm not sure if all the GPz 750 models used the same charging systems, but below is a link to a diagram for the ZX750-A1 and it show 6 wires (the A2 diagram shows the same config). If you engine's charging system began life with a 6 wire setup you may want to stick with that. Ed

More importantly, where should it enter the circuit if ignition ON is controlled by a MotoGadget unit? The Motogadget has a +12V accessory supply which I think is switched.

A quick question to get the ball rolling again.

I'm just putting the finishing touches to the loom which is made from scratch. I'm wiring in the Reg/Rec and have a few questions about cable colours and how it plugs in.

I'm using an aftermarket Reg/Rec for a Z650 with 3 Yellow wires, 1 Brown, 1 Black and 1 White. Can anyone confirm that the below is correct:

3 Yellows TO Stator / Generator
1 Brown TO Battery+ terminal - This is the charging wire and should be fused?
1 Black TO GROUND - Direct to Battery- Terminal or any good ground point?
1 White TO ? This is the control wire I think to regulate charging current - where should enter the circuit? I'm using keyless ignition managed by a MotoGadget unit so the ignition circuit is not straightforward.

I have to admit I have 20Amp fuse but that might be a bit much suspect 15amp would be better, I assume the fuse rating should be in the manual.
As I stated the brown on the kawasaki range is usually the ignition wire and the white is the Battery, if you lose the ignition key and the ignition is not "steering" locked you can hot wire the bike by touching the white and brown together.

No hot-wiring that way - everything runs through the MotoGadget so its Transponder Key or iPhone start only.

Keyless start is the back-up to the iPhone starter.

Hey dudes.

So I finally got my electrical system up and running - on my bench. As I stated earlier in the thread, I wanted to try and do something fun with the electronics system as the MotoGadget makes it so easy. Here's a short video demo'ing the iPhone remote start,



Using an off the shelf $40 dual-Switch Bluetooth relay, I was able to create a remote ignition and starter app for my iPhone. Instead of having an ignition barrel and starter button, I can now switch the bike on and start it via my phone from 20ft away. It also keeps the bike's controls area super clean.

This particular relay also includes a temperature sensor that will be fitted to the top of the air-cooled engine next to the spark plugs. This will allow me to take very accurate engine temp readings and even log them at intervals over a ride to monitor engine temps. I can also have my phone alert me via SMS if the engine is overheating. Using a 4G data-enabled relay, I can switch the bike on (and off!) from anywhere in the world.

Does the remote start check the neutral indicator to prevent the starter from engaging if the bike is not in neutral? This would be good to have in case someone puts the bike's tranny in gear while you are away. Ed

No. I would have to wire the neutral switch between the Bluetooth relay and M-Unit which I didn't want to do. Also - it doesn't have a neutral switch lol. Want to keep everything as clean and minimal as possible.

I'm just gonna have to get into the habit of making sure its in Neutral before I fire it up.

This is mainly a bit of fun. There will be a secret switch start wired in, in case my phone dies lol.

Good to see your okay and still at this project! I was fallowing your build thread on the kz650 forums and we were starting to worry about you when you hadn't posted anything for several months.
