I think I found a free way to get nice, new-looking bolts for the valve cover. The cam cap bolts appear to be exactly the same, but of course they are clean and nice! I'll swap them with the ugly ones on the outside ;)

Hey wireman, that place has the cool anodized bolts, but only in small sizes. 5mm is biggest dia they have :(

They might stock other sizes,Im not sure.
The main problem Id have with aluminum bolts on engine parts other than corrosion would be bolt stretch.
When the clutch cover/valve cover and dyno cover are bolted down to the engine cases Id be willing to bet they add a lot of rigidity to the engine cases, especially the clutch cover and valve cover.
If those aluminum bolts stretch there goes the rigidity ,and I id also be afraid of oil leaks caused by the covers moving.
Just a thought B)

I may be wrong on this but it has always been my understanding that the valve cover bolts and cam cap bolts are different in hardness. The cam cap bolts are a higher grade bolt beings they are under stress...anyone know for sure? I was always told not to use valve cover bolts in cam caps.

According to this picture theyre the same bolt on the 77-78 kz1000 anyway, although Ive seen different style cam cap bolts on some of the 79-80 motors Ive had.
I prefer to install longer hardened bolts myself, though it may be over kill B)

Some of the engine rebuild shops use grade 8 bolts on cam caps.....kinda strange when torque values are so low??? never understood that....

Nelson,

I like what you have done so far... :)

If you went with the 2 piston SV650 front calipers, could you have gone with the 4 piston SV1000 front calipers...

How is the braking power on such heavy bike?

Nope. The wider calipers would hit the spokes. I owned an SV1000 at the time and I did some measuring. I don't think any type of caliper with pistons on the inside would fit that wheel.

The 650 front brake works VERY well. It's almost too strong for the amount of traction the small stock tire has. I really like it.

The rear is from a hayabusa, but I think it's the same caliper as many Suzukis. It was feeling a bit mushy before I took it apart, but probably just needed bleeding.

Thanks. I had thought about that a little, but not as much as you did
Titanium bolts would solve the problem, but I've been looking for those also and no luck so far. I need 6x1x25mm. 9 of them

I may just get regular stainless steel (not red), which is cool too, but not what I wanted.

And did you run custom brackets?

Any pictures?

Also what master cylinder are you using?

Thanks, Luis
