Hello,

I came across a deal on a 1979 KZ1300 today. Only 600 bucks, but it doesn't run.

Has anyone had any of these bikes? Could you recommend for or against it? Any common problems?

Any major mechanical problems? Handing problems?

Anything you can think of? Id really like to restore an old Japanese bike with big displacement.

I can't tell you anything specific about that model. But I can tell you that I recently bought a 1979 KZ 1000 ST that the previous owner said was not running. I changed the oil, bought a battery, through some gas at her and she started right up. I still have a lot of cleaning to do but it will be worth it. Check out the bike and if there are no major issues I would snatch it up!

Some fellow in my hometown had one I took a peek at (i was straight with him that I just wanted to come over and ogle it a little, which he was okay with)it was clean and taken care of, but he was asking 5000+, and frankly I think he's gonna get it.

Sounded really nice when fired up!

Good luck, and pics when you get it!!!

The 1300 is COOL! It's basically a KZ900 with two more cylinders and a water jacket. The ONLY dependability problem has been the cam chain adjuster, an easily solved issue.

I've got all the manuals on line just send me a PM.

I suggest that you buy it and ship it my way!

I would assume many parts are hard to come by as the KZ1300 was not all that common. Also unfortunately like old Goldwings, they were cool as all hell stock, but no one could keep their stinkin mods off of them, so all have huge fairing, bags, goofball bucket seat, and all stock stuff long gone so trying to return it to cool is rough to say the least. The first 79 I remember here in Denver at Kawasaki West was taken for a "test ride" by a guy, and he committed suicide on it. Heck of a way to go.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I have a buddy with 3 KZ1300's. One has well over 100,000 miles on it. He parked it because the cam chain stretched. He hasn't fixed it yet, but claims he will. His statement about the is "It's like a Ford 300 six cylinder in a bike."
