Thanks wireman, but it's nothing compared to the quality of experienced welder would produce. As can be seen in the photo, I ran a bead on the other side as well and you can see the chalky white oxidation that severely weakens the weld. To do it right I need to protect the back of the weld with shielding gas just like the front. To answer your question, YES, a Ti header is a goal of mine :cheer:

ive heard you need to heat titanium before you weld it,did you pre heat?

i am so glad that nads stops by when his orbit gets close enough for him to drop in!

the ti welding is starting to look good.i need to tee off my regulator so that i can conveniently backpurge.then all i need is some of that stainless foil and tape to try my hand at welding some ti.

i really like the pretty colors :P .

i just finished sleeveing, bore and hone and port matching a lt250r zuke cylinder, and making gane some custom axle spacers and have three jobs to turn out this week.not to mention it is getting to be boating season and i have a 347 ci.stroker ford engine that wants my attention, and i bought another front end to use for my z1r frontend conversion.so now i am a set of chinese rotors, custom axle and modified upper triple away from being able to bolt it up  .

i am eager to try my hand at ti welding tho,so keep posting and maybe i will get off my a$$ and tee into my reg. for a little backpurge action.

i do have a gas tank leak that needs tigged,a little back purge sure wouldn't hurt that effort, hmmm B) .

i have often wondered if it may be easier to pick up a modern pipe that is close to ones needs. then cut off the top of the primaries and mod from there up,since they are usualy the wrong angle. rather than start from scratch?
some of the newer bike stock pipes are stainless and can be found on ebay.

surely there is a modern stainless pipe that we could cut what we needed out of and weld back up.

Wow...... I got visited by nads! My thread is now complete, thanks to all from your help and guidance :silly:

I agree with you both, Leon and Mark, I think there's a solution to mod a Zephyr1100 or ZRX stainless header to fit a kz engine/chassis.
Leon, you better get that boat engine together before you screw around with Ti. I'll have a hard time explaining to my wife what your wive is doing at our house threatening to maim me because my bad influence ruined her summer!

I recognize that Showa fork. That bike looks a lot like what I had originally envisioned for my project. Minus the SSSA.

Supersize this picture. I think I see the corner of the battery peeking out from under that seat. I doubt it would fit in the fuel tank unless it was one of those tiny LiPo batteries.

I've got no excuses Josh  Now that I have a working tig machine, I just need to settle down and finish going over my welds, clean things up and paint the frame. The lower end is waiting on a Z1 crank, at which point I will assemble the engine. I've got some things in the works that should allow me to pick up a set of Keihin FCR's :woohoo: I need to get down to the paint store and pick up some epoxy primer and some single stage polyurethane paint, since powdercoating in the color I want will be prohibitively expensive.

Dark metallic bronze to match the forks...the powder coaters wanted a $250 minimum, plus extra for the special color, plus extra to clearcoat the color since it was an "interior" rated color. I'll just paint the damn thing and save myself a few hundred $$$ that can go into my carbs :woohoo:
