Finally got some time in the garage. I welded up the threaded tubing caps (have I mentioned how cool tig welding is? :woohoo: ) and made the right side bracket. This is all for you Leon 'ol buddy. I may perhaps get a little out of it too :P

If I get time tomorrow, I'll make the left side tab and tack weld the tabs in place. I want to put a tail on with the seat and tank to check the lines of the bike before I weld the tabs permanently. Have a great weekend guys B)

Thanks Marneman, I hope you are having a great couple of days off B) I was able to get the left clevis tab cut out, fit and tacked in place. I tell ya, a plasma cutter is awesome when cutting tabs out of 3/8" steel plate! Woulda been nice to have earlier in the project

MUCH cleaner that the last one I hacked together

Overall, it looks 1000% better.

Well Leon, does it meet the "Blackbanshee Seal of Approval"?

I know exactly what you mean by the way love the "franken Z" you should incorperate that into the paint scheme. I bought a swingarm last month to go to a 180 tire until I actually saw a pic of a 300 now I am hooked a guy I work with rode to the ky derby hooked up with a couple old school bikes he has a newer GSXR and all he could talk about was the guy on the KZ with the 300 lol

Keep in mind guys, I have her on jack stands, so its pitched
down a bit more than it would normally be. But I think I'll
keep this amount of tail lift, and weld the tabs up. I am
inching closer to getting the frame fabrication stuff done.
Next is reinstalling the sidecover tabs I just cut off to
install the threaded tubing ends  It seems to be
a never ending cycle, doesn't it? Damn butterfly
effect or some crap :woohoo:

I have something special planned for the paint; I want a classic 74/75 Z1 paint scheme with the main color being the black of the composite, then "ghost" the paint over it, so from afar it looks painted, but up close you can see the weave through it. I may not be able to pull it off the way I want, I'm getting some negative reinforcement from the local paint supply stores. Perhaps I should call H.O.K. and see if they have the same "can't be done" story. Humph!

my paint isnt perfect by no means but I have got alot of that when I was putting together my sceme. now that I know more about these new paints there is nothing you cant do if you can imagine you can do it. one way is to tint your clear with couple drops of black I havent looked but if HOK has black pearl when the sun hits it you look blck when you are up on it you are whatever color your base is I cant wait to do my next set my son works for his mother at the bodyshop
and instead of buying blackout lenses for his rides he paints them with tinted clear

The problem with doing what I want with the paint scheme is the black base of the tank. I want a deep pearl red for the main stripe on the sides of the tank with pearl white trim, and an accent stripe along the bottom thats the same dark bronze the frame and forks are going to be. But with the black base, it signifigantly darkens the colors. For example, alot of the pearl colors are 3 stage, meaning you have a straight color base coat (like red, for a red pearl), then the pearl coat followed by the top coat. Because I want to see the weave of the fabric, I cant have that 1st stage, since thats the background the paint needs to look right. If I use a basic 2 stage pearl, the color won't show up right bacause of the black background. If all else fails, then I will do the paint scheme I want, it simply won't be ghosted. But it would be 100X cooler if I could pull it off! :woohoo:

Leon, thanks for your support and unwavering dedication to quality ;) Aircraft sh!t is cool! What the hell is "salty with a tig" anyway? I can't figure out if its a compliment or an insult
Group ride tomorrow....I am in desperate need to recharge the ride tank to refocus my priority on getting this finished.

adam,
in the old west when they said that someone was
"pretty salty with a gun",
that meant they were very good and that you did not want to mess with them.

welding is one of those things that takes alot of "feel".if i haven't been welding regularly it takes me a few passes to get to feeling "salty" again.

so i guess the way i used it basically was the same as saying
"are you feeling pretty cocky with that tig?"

Maybe a little cocky Leon :P thanks for the compliment, I should have known. I've never seen you insult anyone on the forun buddy B) Also, thanks for the history lesson :woohoo: .
Josh, I did try a couple times months back to weld the cutting edges of single edge razor blades together. MUCH too difficult for my skill level.....The steel burns back too easy   My welder will go down to 5 amps....I think thats low enough to do razor blades. Perhapes its time to give it another try :)
