I was getting confused about everyone talking about annual safety inspections. Like Leon, CA doesn't have them, so I wasn't familiar with them until I saw 'em mentioned hear.

What stops people from riding around with bald tires, no headlights, no brakes, and when do they conduct your emissions test?

Emissions test? Never had the fuzz ever check anything on a bike I was riding. If your headlights out and it's dark you'll get pulled over though. And brakes? Their overated!

Back on track now. I got the guage mount that had been in my head in solid form tonight. It consists of two receiver plates that fit underneath the GSXR top clamp. Then I welded in some standoffs made from 3/4" tube, and finally the two 1" tubes that the guage studs fit into. I was able to use all of the original mounting hardware including the four rubber isolators.

This arrangement puts the top of the dash even with the top of the upper clamp. The two bolts that go through the top clamp will also be used to mount the handlebar risers. I decided tonight that I am definantly using handlebars, and not the clipons that are in place right now. I think that the clipons would look good with a small fairing, but don't look right to me without.

I just hope I don't have shaky needles. They seem steady when turned with a drill motor. I still like the idea of a Koso or Acewell, but I had these, and they are in good shape.

I think I'm going to go with a Koso unit. I like having an analog tach display. That, and I'm not sure about making the stock speedo work with the gsxr front

I'm with you there. The ZX-10r has that digital, lcd, bar graph thing, and it is nearly usless. I like a good old red needle telling me what rpm I'm at.

What's up with that. Haven't they been saying that the 4000 series has been "coming soon" for a while now? Koso has the real deal, but they are a little more pricy$$$.

No doubt... Like the Dakota Digital... beautiful electronics but you have to buy the components separately (sensor, cup, clamp etc...) and buy the time your done, you're down $500... For a speedo/tach!!!

Ah well, nothings cheap any longer I guess... You get hat you pay for...

Have a Koso model image you have in mind....

we haven't had state inspections for several years. 01 or 02 was the last year for inspections.we have plenty of un-documented workers, hell you would think it was texas up here.haha.
they don't seem to bother with inspecting your vehicle, even when you have been pulled over for something else.it would have to be something blatant before they would actually pull you over.
hell we got good ol boys runnin around with straight stacks up through th bed of there diesel pickups.nobody messes with them.

The Koso gauges are excellent looking, but I'll stick with my Acewell, $200 to the door with my speedo pickup included.

What's the deal with the Koso speed pickup? Magnet only?

I'm not sure about the speedo pickup, but I will say this much. I have a magnet pickup speedo on my roadrace bicycle, and that thing is deadnuts accurate. I even thought about installing one of those bicycle speedos on the KZ, soo small that you could hide it really well. The only thing wrong with them is that the backlight won't stay on. You have to know which button to press to get the light on.

the www.trailtech.net/vapor.html is a more affordable option that gives several features.

Leon, do you know if that has a backlight? I like the looks of those little gauges. Nice option with the dasboard that has the indicator lights.

testa,as soon as you roll the bike(if the speedo is hooked up)or the vapor senses current it lights up and is very visible in day and night.i have one and don't have the speedo hooked up yet,but do have the tach hooked up and the temp gauge hooked to a bolt on my valve cover for relative readings.i like the clock also.
it also stores stuff like max rpm,max top speed.
