What gun did you order? I highly recommend a brand name gun- I have used all sorts, and the chinese guns work...at first...then they start fouling up. It's just more work to keep a chinese gun spraying well. I have chinese guns for spraying primer, they're great for that, but for finish coats I'd recommend name brand. Doesn't have to be a $400 gun either mind you. I think I got my current Devilbiss for about $180 a few years back.....they're probably cheaper now. Of course, this is all symantics since you already ordered the sprayer, but for the future ;)

This is the gun that I ordered. cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DeVILBISS-FINISH...5fAutomotiveQ5fTools

It is good advice, and it mirrors what I have read at www.autobody101.com. I figure that I'll stick with a namebrand. Auto paint is too expensive to waste by spraying with an inferior gun.

okay just a quick bit of info here.i saw a paint booth that a guy had made by using an old ez-up and some plastic sheets
and duct tape.he taped a box fan in one side(blowing out of course) and a filter in the other side.he used quality paint and it turned out nice.i am sure uyou can do as well or better.
next note,z1r's have a clamp on rear passenger peg on the right side.it also serves to mount the header.i have two z1r's so i borrowed one from my 78 to use on my 80.because my wife was sitting sideways because the pegs are two different heights.anyways maybe it will give you some ideas.
be back in a moment with pics :) .

just a reminder on the guage mounts, u may recall seeing this in my build.
u can cut the mounts off of the stock kz tree and weld them on the new tree. this is a bit of a time saver.

That sounds pretty similar to what my paint booth will be. Redneck as hell. Thanks for the pics of the clamp on footpegs. That is one less thing that I have to worry about right now.

Mark, I might use that idea, but I really want to get the gauges mounted a little lower. I need to get the headlight in there to see how much room I have.

I got the last little bit of attachments to the battery box done tonight.

Here you can see where I got the regulator mounted to the top, and I also have the studs to hold down the top.

Here you can see the panel mounted, and I got a mounting bracket for the starter solenoid.

You ain't kidding buddy. That thing is close, but it seemed to fit last night. I still need to weld in the little tab that has the bottom grommet for the side panel.

Finished up the fitting of the battery box today, and I got started on the headlight mounting. I also installed the little turn signal lamps.

I cut and bent these mounts to wrap around the new fork legs. They are cut from 16ga. steel.

A close-up of the turn signals. I liked these b/c they are actually metal bodied. Most of what you find these days are those cheesy plastic things.

I took this last picture for Leon. I just wanted to prove that my side panel does fit over the electrics.

do you have to have turn signals down there in tejas?
i like the flat kz seat you used better than the ltd step seats.

Thanks fellas. Leon, I'm not sure about the clipons. I have no back problems, and the riding position is similar to the ZX-10r. I do have a set of dirtbike style bars that may go on there, but I'll have to get or make some risers. I know that my wife would appreciate the bars for the rare times that she rides the bike. As for the turn signals, they always check 'em on my state inspections, so I assume that you need them. Originally I had a super crusty LTD seat that came with the bike, but not even the seat pan was salvagable. I like the flat seat too, and I may even have a seat made that is a little lower. Again the wife would appreciate that. I'm a whole foot taller than she is. You should see her ride the 10r. Tip tip tippy toe.

here in oklahoma if they are on there(turn signals)they have to work,if they are not on there you have to use hand signals(or at least your wife has to  )but we don't have annual state inspections anymore.but the highway patrol can pull you over and inspect you.i am fortunate to have a buddy that is a hi-po and i always have him check my stuff over while we are having some libations  .

You don't have annual safety inspections! What! So do you expect to get pulled over regularly just because? I bet some "undocumented workers" are heading your way upon hearing the news about no state inspections.
