Ben, wouldnt the brake fluid eat the clear hose? i would be interested in this idea.

I think you would be ok as long as the tubing was fuel line ...or something resistant to brake fluiid/oil....

I have a pic around here somewhere....

I'd like to see a pic, if you can find it... I have a 76 LTD, and would love to "hide/get rid of" that rear master cylinder!

It's mutiny in me thread again. If this continues, I'll have ye all keelhauled!

Leon knows how I keep the pimp hand strong. I'm feeling under the weather today, so I'll go easy on you guys. This is the most activity that my thread has had in a month. Clear tubes? Who would have thunk it?

I noticed something else in that picture. It says baby face on the brake lever. Goo-goo gaa-gaa. Fast baby! I wish that I was a photochop expert, b/c I would fix your picture with a big ole radiator hose or a 18" section of a green garden hose. Redneck mods for extra brake fluid capacity. BTW I got the top clamp yesterday. Sadly, it won't work as the spacing is all wrong. It is beautifully machined however. I'll will PM you later to discuss.

Despite my sickly state, I did muster the energy to get some more work in on the battery box. Adam, these pictures should answer your questions about battery isolation. I can tell you that it is a tight squeeze pulling out the top cover with the Dyna 2000 box in place. Coughing, sneezing, grinding, welding, and spitting out snot rockets all the way. Evidence:

Yes, the ignition box is actually screwed down in this picture. I think that I may space it up just a little to allow some airflow under.

These rubber isolators are salvaged from the original battery box.

The plastic piece under the battery is taken from the liner on the original battery box. What you see in this picture is the bottom and one of the sides of the liner. I cut away the other three sides, and quickly flattened this out with the help of a heat gun. I'm thinking that a new rubber piece that fits better may be the ticket here, but this was free and it works.

One of the remaining plastic pieces will sit atop the battery to protect it from the Dyna screws.

I'm seeing lights but I'm not sure if it isn't a hallucination. Can you say bronchitis? Actually, I think that I am close. Once I get done with the fabrication, it should go quickly. I have to think my way through the fab, but I have built enough motors, done enough body work, and stuck together enough vehicles that I should be able to blow through the re-finish and re-assembly stages. I do still have a few decisions to make on paint colors, and general finishes, but I have a fairly good idea what I want to do.

testerosa i use large pieces of velcro to mount my electronics like my two steps or my dyna 4000sp box it works better than mounting it solidly like you have it. it isolates from vibration and we all know what happens to electrical components with to much vibration. a side benifit it make it very easy to remove when you have to do any thing to it like change settings. i also use velcro to mount my ipod when i'm on a roadtrip for the same reason.

Got a little more progress to the battery box this evening.

Here you can see where I added a mounting plate for the fuse box.

I stole this standoff from the original battery box to mount the panel with the rectifier, and the four electrical connectors.

Here you can see a top view with the fuse box in place.

Finally a picture with that panel in almost the original spot.

Also while the Misses and I were riding around on Memorial Day, I convinced her to let me stop in at Cycle Gear. I think that I finally got some front turn indicator lamps that will work. I also scored a front brake lever to replace that broken, terrible faux carbon fibre thing that came on the GSXR. You'll just have to wait to see the pictures of all the new farkles.

Keep it movin Josh, it's comming along nicely. Whats your schedule looking like now that you're on the downhill side of the build?

I was thinking of doing the same thing as you, make a new box but steal a few of the mounting bits from the old box to speed things up. No sense in reinventing EVERY wheel, just a few of the more fun ones

Well I hope to put the wraps on the battery box tomorrow. Then I get to re-visit my gauge mounting plan, since Ben's clamp didn't work. Next is headlight mount, and turn signal mounts. After that, I have to figure out some method of removable passenger footpegs. I wish that I just had some clamp on things. Do they make such a thing? I'm not super excited about fabricating anything here. After all that stuff, I start to strip down and refinish. I'll be soo glad to see shiny bits instead of greasy, rusty, and dirty.

Ordered a new HVLP gun which should be here by Friday. I'm gonna have to be creative with a temporary paint booth.
