See this thread for background info.

I haven't decided on an ultimate goal for the bike yet. There are a few issues that need attention, so that will be me my focus for at least a few weeks. Probably months...

I'll use these first posts to confirm the bike's current condition. I'll post some questions along the way.

This is a stock European Z1000 MkII. I believe this is a '79 (don't remember where I copied the picture from), but as far as know there should be minor or no changes between the A3 and the A4. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Here's my new bike! :woohoo:

Who can tell me what's stock and what's not? There will be more pictures coming.

I first thought that a previous owner had painted the fork legs and front fender, but judging by the stock image that is all original paint.

After I've posted a few more pics I'll start making a list of all the work/parts that it needs. I'm sure you can help me with that as well.

Carbs are a bit gummed up and a few float bowl gaskets are shot. I haven't decided if this is something I'll dive into myself. All those tiny parts inside are a bit frightening  :S. It also needs new carb holders. It's pulling false air (do you use that expression in the States?) so it stays revved up around 3K. How do the aftermarket carb holders measure up to the Kawasaki ones?

Do these look like stock? I really have no clue ID'ing carbs unless there's a stamped # on them I can verify :P

Using gasket cement like this should be punishable by death . Will take some time to clean that up. Doesn't even look like the cement fixed the leak the PO tried to fix. Still a lot of oil underneath the tank.

Both speedo and tach has been opened up for cleaning/fixing by an amateur, and now the halves slip apart while riding. I don't think I can fix that myself. Is Z1-Resto still in business?

Funny looking handlebars. Mirror paint is peeling off.

Original paint is faded and there are quite a few nicks and scratches, but I don't think a professional repaint is on top of my list of priorities.
