Leave the tank off until you get the brakes right.

i would hate to have to cut the bracket off this pipe and re-weld another on.
a custom bracket that clamped to the (basically)vertical tube would be cool.
hard to describe tho :pinch: .

A great old Bassani Superbike pipe!!!! Most of the Bassani Superbike pipes sold were plasma coated before they were painted. Thats why you never had much rust on a Bassani pipe. I would not cut the bracket off the pipe. You will lose the coating around where you weld the new bracket on.
Your idea with the bracket to the vertical tube would be the way to go. Plus if you wanted to get real fancy, use the rear exhaust rubber dampners from like the KZ900 made into your bracket, and then your pipe would be rubber mounted too!!!

I think a lot of people experience that even with an original LTD seat fitted to non-LTD KZ tank. I went to WalMart and bought a very small section of the velv'est, black velvet I could find. Cut out a section of it to match the seat front section that makes contact with the seat. Then used Loctite Superglue Gel . The gel type gives you more control and concentration of the glue. This has minimized the amount of noticeable wear of the gloss on the tank where it contacts the seat.

NOTE: A LITTLE AT A TIME (couple seconds) W/THE HEAT...
Better yet.... You could also remount the seat hinges 1/4 to 1/2" back (or whatever distance required) away from the tank.
