Well, now that you mention it .....

So I did a compression test this spring (been unemployed since October, so nothing got done on the bike all winter. BAH!) and I found a problem. Spec is 170 +/- 15 PSI, and my readings are: 100,0,100,92
This is bad.
The most cost-effective way to get all the gaskets/seals I need is the top-end kit from Z1, and since this comes with a base gasket anyway, I decided to pull the jugs while I was at it and inspect the pistons, rings, and wrist pins -- and it's a good thing, too since I found that all 4 cylinders were getting blow-by.
The cylinders, pistons, and wrist pins are all in great shape though, so all I am left to get is a set of rings for that phase.
When I removed the head, I found #2 exhaust valve burned through, #4 getting close to burning through, and the other 2 were caked with buildup - including a black glaze on the ground surface.
The cams both mic within spec, and the intake valves are serviceable.
I found a local machine shoppe that will regrind all 8 valves and seats for a mere $35 USD, so that's settled.
I see there are new exhaust valves on e-bay, so I can get those parts (although from 2 different buyers). These are OEM part # 12005-008
Having trouble finding stock rings for less than $Firstborn though - need 4 of OEM part # 13008-059
Need batteries for my digicam, or I would have had photos of the parts as I removed them. I might get some taken later though - doing a bit of aluminum polishing since I got the engine apart, and I can get at all the nooks and crannies.

The rings are expensive. According to Kawasaki.com they're still available from Kawasaki but at about $200 for the set of 4. They do sometimes come up on eBay, but not often in the STD size. Ed

when i replaced my breather tube i couldnt find one either so I used a two pieces of fuel line and a barbed pvc plumbing elbow, didn't use any clamps to hold them on they were a pretty tight fit to begin with and they have been holding for 2 years now. best part is i think it cost me a dollar or two.
