So I figured I better introduce myself to everyone. I'm from Indiana near Muncie, rode a lot of different bikes over the years but always had a soft spot for the 70's KZ1000s.

I am the proud new owner of an 82 KZ1100A with 58k miles showing on the clock. Yes, that seems high, but from all appearances the engine looks rebuilt. I pretty much stole this bike from a kid who didn't know what he had. He couldn't get it to start, so he just got rid of it. The problem was the ignition cylinder was jammed in the fork lock position :laugh: . I had to cut the tab off the neck, drop the switch out and pull the base off. Turned the slot to where "on" would be, hit the button and it fired right up :woohoo: . I just put 110 miles on it today, and taking it on a charity ride in the morning of around 100 miles round trip. The only thing I don't like about it is the windjammer and trunk don't match the color of the bike, but that's easy enough to change B)

Welcome,

Nice bike, unmolested 1000As are hard to come by in the states. They didn't sell as many as the LTDs and many of the survivours have been Cafe'd or Brat'd.

I've been fighting myself about that.... On one hand, I like the originality of it (faded paint, oxidized aluminum, etc), on the other I almost want it to look as good as it rides... Did 110 miles on it yesterday and another 100+ today for a veteran's charity ride. My only real complaint is the seat needs more padding for those long hauls lol

I'd get a smaller windshield. The Vetters are heavy and act like big sails. A little paint wouldn't hurt.

True, but I like the storage in them. Plus I have a radio mount off another Vetter I can use :) . That, and I don't really feel like rewiring the front half of the bike lol
