I sold my Honda Elite 80 scooter a couple weeks ago and got way more for it than I was expecting. Saw this bike on Craigslist the next day and bought it. Somewhat of an impulse buy, but nothing wrong with that.

Its a 1994 KZ1000P. It isn't perfect, but very nice for the age and mileage (~72,000). It belonged to the Santa Barbara Police Department up until a few years ago. The previous owner was in the process of converting it into a LAPD bike, and it has most of the lights and sirens off. The only real thing it needs is a new battery (if you don't leave it charging, the battery will die in a few days). There are some small wiring issues but nothing too major.

Not sure of what my plans are for the bike. I've owned it for about 2 weeks and have only done about 100 miles- mostly because I'm a college student and don't have much time!

Looking forward to reading the forums and asking a bunch of questions!

Welcome, I have a 2001 KZP. It is a amazingly fun bike to ride and pretty darn quick. I was out for a 250 mile ride yesterday in the N. GA mtns. I was able to leave my Harley and Indian friends in the dust due to it's power and maneuverability.
I think you'll really like it once you get used to it. You may wan to lose the extra seat and box until you need them.
Oh, and the side bags will hold two six packs each B)

I think I might take the seat/box off just because they're pretty bulky and make it a little harder to get on and off the bike. That being said, the seat back is pretty comfortable (no second seat there, just a backrest) and the box fits my helmet and jacket or my backpack perfectly!

Can't wait to start working on this thing and take it on some longer rides. Thanks for the tip about the six packs :woohoo:

Got any more pictures? That looks awesome!

I'm thinking about making mine into that style of bike- any more pictures or details would be greatly appreciated!

Will throw some up tomorrow. Seat is my last detail. Too lazy to finish it right now. Its a beach cruiser. Look at Airtech Streamlining.

That's a great looking bike, seems like it'd be quite a project though! I've seem differing opinions on oil coolers. I love the look and the idea of them, but some say they'll prevent the oil from reaching normal operating temps fast enough.

That's an extreme example. More like what Jon has done with his Phenox fighter. I plan on the thermal bypass valve for the fall and waited for spring to hook it up. Summers are brutal here.

I replaced jus about all the original electrical wiring left from previous owner. New stator, starter, voltage reg, spark plug wires, coils.
The fairing is a Maier but Airtech makes a better one. The fenders are Airtech. They make body specific for the KZP.
Engine wise had a Wiesco 1075 piston kit installed. Completely had the top end rebuilt. Trans was fine.
Pipes are Macs straights. Hate the turn out version.
The usual rubber replacement.
I hate chrome so eventually it will all be blacked out.
Seat is too wide for my narrow ass but is comfortable. I have 4 alternatives to mod and/or play with including a Corbin GF.

Its a surf checker and occasional PCH runner. Starts like a new bike.

Absolutely awesome! Not the biggest fan of the front shroud but it still looks good. I'll definitely be sourcing some ideas for my bike from your build. I might be PM'ing you in the future with some questions if you don't mind! ;)
