hello! newbie here! new to the old school jap bikes and i love the way they look!.... so ive been pondering on buying this 79 kz650 that i found on craigslist in my local area but, there's quite a few mods on it and has been low sided. im planning on using the bike to commute to work everyday(highway riding) and probably some weekend fun in the canyons. The bike is beautiful but im kinda of skeptical because of the mods on the bike, plus ive never owned a vintage bike and work with carbs. i would like to own one at some point but is this the right one for me? anything i should worry about if i do go forth on buying this bike... any suggestions or advice would be nice.... thanks!! hope to be more active on this forum!

Welcome to the site
The bike doesn't look bad and the guy seems up front with the description.
Question becomes
How much do you like it ?
Is it worth the money ?
If the owner is willing to let you ride it and not just around the block to see how it runs stone cold and fully warmed up you will have a better feel for how the engine work blends together with all the switched out parts. It may be perfect.
Or if you are not sure , keep looking

Do you have experience riding a motorcycle ? Not trying to be cute...
Briefly, When bike is stone cold how hard does it start? Depending on air temps you will usually need to choke the carbs and leave the choke on for a while . maybe having to use a partial choke setting until warm enough for motor to perform smoothly with the choke off.
What kind of noises come from the motor when started and cold ? rattles, Clicks, grinding ? Or does it purr.
Some noises are normal when cold and go away once warmed up.
How well does the bike run at idle, at speed , and while accelerating ?
If this is over your head take someone with you that has more experience with these older bikes.
Stock bikes are easier to tune and maintain but are not easy to find and probably cost more
We do have a lot of 650 riders on here so maybe they will speakup
